Adding a reel

Uploading a video, attaching the product, and the formats and shapes that actually work.

A reel is one video plus the product it sells. Both halves matter: a video with no product attached still plays, but the player has nothing to put beside it, so there is nothing to buy.

Adding one

  1. Go to WooCommerce then Smart Reels and choose Add New Reel.
  2. Give the reel a title. This is the accessible label for the video, and it is the text shown on the Title Only card design.
  3. Upload a video, or pick one already in your media library.
  4. Under Video Settings, choose the Associated Product. This is the product whose price, variations and add to cart button appear beside the video in the player.
  5. Publish the reel.

Accepted formats

MP4, MOV and WebM. Nothing else is accepted, and that is a browser limit rather than a plugin one: AVI and WMV are refused at upload because a browser cannot play them and no still frame can be taken from them.

Shape and length

Thumbnails

A still frame is captured from the video automatically and set as the reel's featured image, so a card has something to show before the video loads. If the capture fails, which happens with some encodings, set a featured image by hand on the reel.

There is no import from a URL

Smart Reels does not fetch video from TikTok, Instagram or any other platform, and it makes no external requests. Videos are uploaded to your own media library, which is also why there is no account to connect and no key to paste.
