Business expenses
The overheads that never touch an order: rent, software, salaries and anything else between gross and net.
Product costs, fees and shipping are all per order. Expenses are the costs that exist whether or not anybody buys anything, and without them a dashboard reports gross margin while calling it profit.

Adding an expense
An expense needs an amount, a date and a frequency. One-off expenses land on their date. Recurring expenses repeat on their pattern and are spread across the periods they cover, so a yearly software renewal does not make one month look catastrophic.
Categories
Expenses can be grouped into your own categories. This is for reading the numbers later rather than for the calculation: every expense counts against profit whatever it is called.
How they reach the dashboard
Expenses are included in Total Costs and therefore in net profit and margin, for whatever date range is selected. An expense dated outside the selected range does not appear in it.
